Description

Cotinus coggygria ‘Royal Purple’ is a hardy deciduous shrub. Foliage of deep rounded red-purple leaves that turn a vivid and more red shade, during the autumn months, having  fluffy, smoke-like plumes of purplish-pink flowers in July and August.

The smoke bush makes an eye-catching specimen plant for a sunny shrub or mixed border, with foliage which appears almost translucent when backlit by the sun.

This beautiful shrub has gained the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit and will reach an eventual height of 3m. It is recommended to prune hard in March, for the best results later in the year.

Plant in the garden borders to add depth and texture to your display or for those with smaller gardens, they can also be planted in containers for the patio or decking. Generally an unfussy and a low maintenance choice of shrub for the garden.
