Golden Acre is an old heirloom variety, that produces dense, grey-green heads. References to it can be found in seed catalogues as early as 1927.
It’s a first-early cabbage and grows quickly, so slugs and other pests don’t have much time to affect more mature plants. Slow to bolt and vigourous, with 5 to 6 inch round heads, It is also a compact grower, making it a good choice for gardens with less space. Ready in about 65 days from transplant.
Delicious raw, steamed, stir-fried, or krauted. Best eaten quickly after harvest.

Cultivation Advice Cabbage Golden Acre
- Start seed indoors or in greenhouse in early spring (5-7 weeks before planting outdoors).
Germinate above 10c - Or plant directly outdoors in mid spring or early summer when last frost has passed.
- Sow 2-3 seeds together every 18 inches. Planting depth 1/8 inch.
- When seedlings are 1 inch tall thin to one plant every 18 inches.
- Can be sown again in early summer for an autumn crop
- Plant cabbage in a sunny location where no cabbage was grown the year before.
- Keep weed free, moist and protect against pests.
