January to March or July to September

Where to Sow
Sow seed on the surface of the compost and cover with a very fine sprinkling of vermiculite or finely sieved compost. Place in a propagator or in warm place at around 15-20°C (59-68°F) until the seeds germinate.

What to do Next
When the seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant each seedling into the individual pots or a multi-cell tray. Plant out spring raised plants into a sunny border 45cm (18″) apart. Late summer/ autumn raised plants can be overwintered in a cold frame and planted out the following spring.

Handy Tip
Glasshouse sowings will flower the same year. After flowering, cut back the plants to improve the second year’s growth.
